Google Earth is a virtual globe/map that you can download for free to your computer. You can tour the earth and the stars by using your mouse to move and zoom. Just released version 5.0 beta includes "historical imagery from around the globe, ocean floor and surface data from marine experts, and simplified touring with audio and voice recording."

You can use Google Earth to display your own content (pictures, text, videos, links, etc.) embedded in the globe. The example below shows photos taken by students and teachers for the photo blog 14 Lenses. Use your mouse to move and zoom.
You can do similar projects with Google Earth in your classes. If you have an idea and would like help implementing your idea, contact the IT Department at extension 229.
